Alex Barzanov
I grew up in Borovets and have been skiing since childhood. What started with ski racing eventually became a career as a ski instructor, helping people of all levels improve their skiing and enjoy their time on the mountain.
I have been a licensed ski instructor since 2007 and have taught every winter season since then. My first licence was issued by the Bulgarian Ski School (BSU), and I have held a licence from Bulgarian Professional Ski Instructors (BPSI) since 2010. As a Borovets local, I combine extensive experience on the mountain with a modern approach to teaching. I use clear explanations, movement analysis and progressive exercises suited to each skier.
I can also recommend good ski rental options in Borovets and help you choose equipment that matches your level and needs.
It is hard to speak highly enough about Alex. Professional, entertaining, and genuinely kind, he is not only a great person but also an exceptional teacher. I had such a great time, learned so much, and will definitely return. Everything was well organised and always focused on the best interests of the student, making the whole experience both fun and highly rewarding.
Very helpful and knowledgeable instructor. Alex went above and beyond to make everything easy and well organised, including help with equipment. The prices for the lessons were very reasonable. He was always supportive and made the whole experience really enjoyable. Highly recommended!
Best Ski Instructor in Borovets.
Definitely one of the best ski experiences in Borovets. Alex is very focused on the needs of his clients and has a great approach to teaching. You can see real improvement, both with kids and adults. First year with him and we’ll definitely be back next year!

Where do we meet for lessons?
Do I need my own equipment?
No. You can rent skis, boots and a helmet in Borovets. I can recommend good ski rental shops and help you choose the right equipment. Bring gloves, goggles and warm layers.
A lift pass is not included in the lesson price. You can buy one at the ticket offices in the resort and at the lift base stations.
Do you offer beginner ski lessons?
Where do beginners ski in Borovets?
How many lessons does a beginner need?
Do you offer ski lessons for kids?
Yes. There is no minimum age. What matters is that the child is ready and interested in skiing. With the youngest ones, the lesson is more about play and getting used to skis. Children should never be pushed into skiing, as this can put them off it.
For younger children, I generally recommend lessons of around 1 hour, depending on their age and attention span. Safety always comes first, and helmets are mandatory.
Is this a ski school or a private instructor?
How can I check if an instructor is licensed?
You can ask to see the instructor’s licence card, which states the discipline (skiing, snowboarding or cross-country skiing) and the level they are licensed for. The card has an individual number, and for BPSI instructors it can be checked online in the BPSI register.
For alpine skiing, Class A covers teaching from the first steps through to parallel turns, Class B also includes carving technique, while Class C adds advanced skills such as moguls, off-piste and race skiing.
What if the weather is bad or I need to cancel?
You can cancel or reschedule your lesson free of charge up to 7 days before it.
If the weather is poor on the day, I’ll do my best to move your lesson to a time with better visibility or snow conditions.
If you don’t show up for a booked lesson without letting me know, you won’t be able to book future lessons.
Do you offer transfers?
Borovets is about 70 km from Sofia Airport, roughly 1 to 1.5 hours by car depending on traffic and road conditions.
I don’t arrange or guarantee transfers myself, but here are a few independent transport providers you can contact directly:
Let’s make this your best winter yet.
